Connect translation providers

Translation assistance suggests text for Missing cells. Your provider account pays for the requests. Localisync stores proposals separately and changes translations only after you review and apply them.

An Owner or Admin configures connections under Translation assistance → Translation providers in the sidebar (also accessible from Workspace Settings → Translation providers). A workspace may have several connections to the same provider. Owners, Admins and Editors can use enabled connections, so consider their shared spending authority when setting limits. Viewers cannot generate, inspect assistance jobs or apply proposals.

  1. Choose Add connection, a provider and a descriptive connection name.
  2. Enter the API key in the password field. It is cleared after submission and cannot be retrieved later.
  3. Choose the supported model or DeepL account type. For Gemini, explicitly confirm that the project has active billing. This is your declaration, not an API-verified billing status.
  4. Set the required daily jobs, daily calls, daily units, units per job and maximum model output tokens. Limits reset at 00:00 UTC. They cover only requests made through Localisync, not your provider balance or other applications.
  5. Choose Save connection. Saving does not run a paid test.
  6. Optionally choose Test connection. Review the fixed sample and approve its possible cost before generating. It uses no project translations and cannot apply content.
Provider Supported account/API Configured model
OpenAI Responses API with structured output gpt-5.4-mini-2026-03-17
Gemini Interactions API with structured output; billing declaration required gemini-3.8-flash
Google Translate Cloud Translation Basic v2, API key Not applicable
DeepL Explicit Free API account or Pro API account Not applicable

An unavailable model fails explicitly. Localisync does not switch models or providers automatically. Google Advanced/IAM, custom endpoints, provider-hosted glossary management and custom prompts are outside this integration. Linked Localisync glossary terms can be included as reviewable text context with compatible providers; see provider context.

Credentials are encrypted through a private OpenBao Transit service. The database stores ciphertext. The API can encrypt; the assistance worker can decrypt for a call. Only operators have key rotation/rewrap authority. The browser cannot fetch a saved API key.

The provider receives the selected source text, source/target language codes, necessary parameter contracts, explicitly selected preview context and temporary opaque record IDs. Context controls and provider differences are described in the suggestion workflow. Workspace names, account emails, tags and content history are not sent. Do not submit text that you are not authorized to send to that provider.

OpenAI and Gemini calls set store: false and do not use tools, web search, uploaded files, conversation history or background provider jobs. This does not promise that the provider retains no data. Review OpenAI data controls, Gemini terms, Google Cloud Translation documentation and DeepL API documentation for your account.

Settings / replace key updates settings or replaces a credential. Previously approved queued work stops if the connection changes. Review the new settings and approve a retry, or create a new preview when the source changed.

Disable stops future calls. It cannot undo a request already sent or its charge. Remove deletes Localisync’s ciphertext and disables further use; it does not revoke the key at the provider. Revoke a compromised key with the provider too.

A sealed or unreachable vault blocks new credential operations and provider calls. Existing translations, releases and delivery remain available. See vault and worker operations.

For the configured OpenAI/Gemini models, optional sanitized image input uses fixed high resolution and an explicit per-preview choice. Model-specific image reservations follow the OpenAI image guide and Gemini resolution guide. Provider billing and retention remain governed by your account terms.
