Key tags
This guide applies to the branch selected in Current branch. Keys, values, languages, tags and file mappings are independent between branches. See branch navigation and branch permissions.
Tags label a key across all its languages. They belong to one branch and are independent of values, Missing state and fallback configuration.
Permissions and limits
Section titled “Permissions and limits”| Action | Owner / Admin | Editor | Viewer |
|---|---|---|---|
| View tags and filter keys | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Create tags and assign/remove them on active keys | Yes | Yes | No |
| Rename or delete unused tags | Yes | No | No |
Workspace, project, branch and key archives prevent tag edits. A name is trimmed and normalized, must contain 1–50 characters, and is case-insensitively unique in the branch. Each key can have at most 20 tags. Bulk requests contain at most 100 keys.
Create and manage tags
Section titled “Create and manage tags”- Open the project side menu’s Tags page.
- Enter a name and select Create tag.
- Owner/Admin can rename a tag inline or delete it when unused.
- Follow its linked-key count to inspect every usage, including archived keys.
A used tag cannot be deleted. Remove associations first. An archived key must be deliberately restored before editing its tags; deletion does not silently alter archived content.
Assign tags in Translations
Section titled “Assign tags in Translations”The tag icon to the left of each editable key opens Edit tags. Its label appears on hover or keyboard focus; on touch screens, tap the icon directly. The checkbox, tag action and key name share one compact line. Long key names are shortened visually; open the key to read its full name.
Change the selected tags inline, then choose Save tags or Cancel. Assigned tag badges appear below the key; keys without tags leave no empty badge row. Use the row checkboxes and bulk tag controls to add or remove selected tags from up to 100 keys.
Every affected key carries its expected metadata version. A stale or archived key rejects the whole bulk request. Refresh, review the new key state and try again; conflicting edits are never overwritten automatically. Successful tag-association changes advance the key’s metadata version and enter content history. Language value versions stay unchanged.
Filter, import and export
Section titled “Filter, import and export”Include tags matches any selected tag, while Exclude tags removes any match and takes priority. Viewers can use both filters. The same rules apply on Export.
Import can add chosen tags and table-file tag names while preserving existing associations. It cannot remove tags. A repeated import that leaves the tag set unchanged does not create another tag-history event.
