Create a project
Project settings are shared. Translation content and language configuration use the selected branch. See branch navigation and branch permissions.
A project belongs to one workspace and groups language configuration and translation keys. All workspace members can view it; only Owner/Admin can create or manage it.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”Choose an active workspace where you are Owner or Admin. Decide which language should be the project’s source. You cannot change it after creation.
Create the project
Section titled “Create the project”- Open the workspace’s Projects page.
- In Create project, enter Project name.
- Open Source language and search by English language name or standard code.
- Optionally select languages through Add initial target language (optional). Remove an unwanted selection before saving.
- Review the source language and select Create project.
The name is trimmed and accepts 1–100 characters without control characters. Names do not need to be unique. The URL uses the project’s UUID.
Expected result
Section titled “Expected result”The project and its fixed main branch, source language and optional targets are saved together. A project without targets still has its source language. Every new target initially falls back to the source.
Creation and project cards open main → Translations. Open Languages to add or inspect targets, or Settings to rename or archive the project. There are no separate project members; workspace membership controls access.
The source language does not require a value on any key. Owner/Admin/Editor manage translation content; project settings still require Owner/Admin.
Find an existing project
Section titled “Find an existing project”The Projects list shows active projects by default. Use Project status to select Active, Archived or All projects, and use pagination for additional records.
Use Current project in the header to switch directly to another project’s remembered branch Translations page (main on its first visit). The selector includes active and archived projects in the selected workspace. Browse all projects appears when there are more than 100; the paginated list remains available through Projects.
The header and sidebar keep your selection when you visit workspace lists, members or settings. Each workspace remembers its last project across later visits in the same browser, while open tabs stay independent. Direct project links and browser back/forward navigation take priority. See workspace navigation for persistence and recovery details.
Project menu items remain visible without a selected project. Selecting a shared project page opens Choose a workspace and project; a content page also requests its branch; confirm with Continue to … to reach the requested page. Cancel leaves your current selection untouched. If no project exists, Go to projects opens the list and creation form for Owner/Admin.
If creation fails
Section titled “If creation fails”- Confirm that your role is still Owner/Admin and that the workspace remains active.
- Correct a rejected language code using Language codes.
- A source cannot also be a target. Equivalent codes cannot be added twice.
- If the response was interrupted, inspect the project list before starting another creation. The API supports idempotent retries of the same creation request.
See Project settings for lifecycle behavior.
